Description:
The "Nippy Clearway" pressure-controlled mechanical insufflation/exsufflation cough assist device is designed to assist patients in coughing up bronchopulmonary secretions by gradually applying positive pressure to the airway and then rapidly switching to negative pressure (a.k.a. Air stacking). For this purpose, a rapid pressure change is generated by the mains-powered table-top device via a ventilation tube and face mask or mouthpiece or tracheostomy tube, which subsequently causes a high expiratory flow from the lungs, simulating a coughing impulse. This technique is called mechanical insufflation-exsufflation
