Prototype Description Motion Mate is an open glove orthosis for people with limited hand function, e.g. after a stroke or accident. Electric motors and cable pull mechanisms enable active closing and opening of the fingers, based on the principle of natural tendons. The orthosis is lightweight (160 g) and user-friendly, while the batteries and actuators are housed in a separate belt pouch (650 g). It is controlled via motion signals, a Bluetooth control unit, smartphone app or voice control. The active orthosis from Powered Orthotics is currently in the prototype stage and is being further developed for long-term use in collaboration with test subjects and Würth Elektronik.
