(information provided by the supplier)
The water therapy device enables laryngectomees to undergo exercise therapy in water and also therapeutic swimming.
The Larchel consists of a flexible corrugated tube that is firmly connected at one end to a special blockable tracheostomy tube. At the other end is a mouthpiece with bite blocks. This mouthpiece is inserted into the user's mouth and firmly enclosed by the user's lips. The air is sucked in via the nose, passed into the pharyngeal cavity and then reaches the corrugated tube via the oral cavity. The air is then passed via the corrugated tube to the tracheostomy tube and flows into the tracheostoma.
The tracheostomy tube with balloon is required to prevent water from entering the tracheostoma. By inflating the balloon (cuff), the cannula can be sealed against the tracheal wall inside the tracheostoma. Inflation is carried out using a 10 ml syringe, which is included with the Larchel.
After inserting the Larche® cannula, a cannula support band is placed around the neck and attached to the side outlets of the cannula shield using the hook fastener. This stabilises the fit of the tracheostomy tube in the tracheostoma.
The Larchel is available in different sizes (cannula diameters). In order to achieve a good seal during inflation, the cannula diameter must be selected precisely. Consultation with the attending physician and an authorized specialist, e.g. a laryngectomee association swimming officer, is required as part of the instruction process.
The use of the Larchel requires a thorough medical examination of the user to ensure that no health impairments prevent the use of this assistive product. A medical prescription for the Larchel assistive products for the respective user is absolutely necessary.
Caution should be exercised in the case of an unstable tracheostoma and the associated problems with changing the cannula. Use of the Larchel is not recommended in this case.
