Description:
The assessment of physical performance in work-related activities (ELA for short) is an assessment procedure within the Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE). It enables standardized testing of various physical demands of the world of work. ELA was developed for use in the context of medically job-oriented rehabilitation and is approved for both MBOR (medically job-oriented rehabilitation) and ABMR (work-related musculoskeletal rehabilitation). The procedure is also used in occupational rehabilitation and in the context of occupational health management (BGM) and company integration management (BEM).
With the help of specific work requirement-related tests, ELA supports the standardized determination of workplace-related physical performance. The instrument can be used flexibly and can be used both in the limited time frame of medical rehabilitation and as a complete FCE test in other contexts.
Characteristics of the procedure are
1) a resource-saving, time-efficient procedure,
2) flexible handling focused on the requirements of the target occupation and
3) compatibility with the IMBA profile comparison procedure.
The validity of the procedure was confirmed in two multicentre cohort studies: Positive ELA results are associated with significantly more favorable chances of a successful return to work.
