Description
The Humanware Monarch offers a tactile display with 96x40 plastic pins.
For operation, there are many function keys with which you can zoom in and out on a graphic display, move an enlarged display in four directions, scroll through lines of text, etc.
On the front we find the three standard Android navigation keys: 'Back', 'Home' and 'Recent applications'.
On the right side are the volume keys. Finally, there is also a Braille keyboard.
The Monarch offers many connection ports: USB-A, USB-C, an audio jack and an HDMI connection that you can use to show the graphic image on a monitor to a sighted companion. There is also Bluetooth on board. The device contains a rechargeable battery and can therefore be used separately from the power outlet.
The Monarch runs on Android and comes with a range of applications: a braille editor, a word processor that supports MathML, a scientific calculator, a graphing calculator, a file manager and the Victor application for reading e-books.
The Tactile Viewer is responsible for displaying the graphics on the Monarch. This application also provides access to the online library ‘TGIL’ which contains around 15,000 graphics for the Monarch.
Humanware also provides a ‘Software Development Kit’ with which third-party developers can build applications for the Monarch.
