Description
Researchers at Binghamton University have developed a robotic, AI-supported guide dog that interacts with its users using large language models. The system can understand and respond to spoken instructions and independently provide information about the route and surroundings.
Even before it sets off, the robot presents several routes to the desired destination, each with an estimated duration. Once the user has decided, it takes over navigation and provides continuous information about paths, obstacles and other important conditions.
The study entitled From Woofs to Words: Towards Intelligent Robotic Guide Dogs with Verbal Communication was presented at the 40th AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 2026.
