Description
- The Ultracane is a white cane with advanced obstacle detection. He gives tactile feedback. This version is an improved version of the model from the early 2000s.
- The Ultracane has a stronger grip than an ordinary white cane. The grip contains the battery, the necessary electronics, two detectors and two vibrating buttons that indicate obstacles to the user.
- The detection range can be set to 2 or 4 meters. This is done via the power button has three settings: off, short and long range.
- Obstacles are at low level as well as at head height detected.
- At the top of the handle are two vibrating yellow buttons on which the thumb is located. The lower vibratory button corresponds to the low range and the upper vibrating button corresponds to the range at shoulder / head height. The more vibration (higher frequency) of the buttons, the nearer the obstacle.
- It requires specific training and habituation to learn to work well with the Ultracane. The necessary instructional material is available online in English on the website of the producer.
- The correct length, in relation to the body size, is of importance for a correct functioning. Several stick lengths are available: from 110 to 150 cm in steps of 5 cm.
