Description:
The Pace Stimulator (ODFS Pace XL) is a 1-channel electrical stimulation device for functional electrical stimulation, which is activated by means of a foot switch. It was specially developed as a home therapy system to improve foot drop in cases of neural damage to the upper motor system. These include stroke, multiple sclerosis, partial spinal cord injuries (T12 and above), head injuries, cerebral palsy and congenital spastic leg paralysis. Electrodes are placed on the surface of the skin where the main peroneal nerve passes over the head of the fibula and the motor point of the anterior fibula.
The stimulation produces a lifting and outward rotation of the foot, whereby knee and hip flexion can also be achieved if the electrodes are positioned appropriately. The electrical stimulation feels prickly, but most patients quickly get used to this sensation. The ODFS Pace XL has a wide range of settings, so that a variety of therapeutic applications are possible. The therapist can select any combination of parameters, or alternatively preset programs are available that require little fine-tuning by the individual user.
The ODFS Pace XL is also suitable for additional rehabilitation exercises. An exercise mode enables cyclical stimulation to activate muscles before walking or to strengthen other muscle groups. Stimulation programs are also available for repetitive training of different gait types or muscle activities such as hip extension, knee flexion and extension as well as starting the gait movement.
The ODFS Pace XL offers the possibility of data recording so that the patient's progress and compliance can be monitored.
