Description:
Tactile orientation aids make it easier for blind and visually impaired people to find their way in road traffic.
Panels with a grooved or studded structure are used in the form of attention fields, boundary or protective strips and guidance directions at bus stops, level crossings, crosswalks or when changing levels in road traffic, for example, but also in public buildings and facilities. Slabs with a waffle structure as a surface fulfill the same function as a studded structure. With these tiles, it is necessary that the fields stand out clearly from the surrounding floor covering and that the structure can be felt with a long stick or even with the feet. Accompanying strips with a flat, low-joint surface that contrasts in color and texture with the studded or grooved tiles should be positioned on one or both sides of the guidance systems. These serve to better distinguish the guidance system from the normal road surface.
Material:
For easier acoustic differentiation, the studded and grooved slabs are made of fiber-reinforced concrete on core concrete, so that a change in the floor covering is also perceptible through an acoustic change.
The tactile floor tiles are also easier to recognize and distinguish for the visually impaired thanks to their good color and luminance contrast.
Application example:
Floor tiles with a grooved structure are used for guide strips or also for catch strips. When used as a guide strip system, a continuous, linear structure
guides the user in a targeted manner from the starting point to the specified end point. This guidance system is particularly useful
- for guidance in confusing or busy areas
- for guidance from one building to another
- from the building entrance to an information stand.
As a catch strip, it connects parallel guidance strips to
- to the end of guidance strips at the platform or stop end
- to draw attention to entrances or exits with level changes that are aligned in the longitudinal direction of the platforms/stops.
While the floor information with a grooved structure guides users to a building, for example,
floor information with a studded structure in the form of attention fields indicates forks in the path or danger areas.
