The CoffeeBoy
A coffee machine with a bright green panel with tactile indicators that partially covers the touch screen so that the user can operate the correct part of the screen through the openings provided.
The CoffeeBoy aims to provide a solution for blind and partially sighted people to be able to operate coffee machines in public spaces independently. Bastiaan Jong and Ruben Plooster won the ‘best autoinventor’ of the Netherlands last week for their invention the 'CoffeeBoy'. The two inventors developed the CoffeeBoy at 3D Ambacht in collaboration with Jolanda Knuman. Jolanda is partially sighted and, like her five blind colleagues from the Province of Gelderland, wanted to be able to get coffee and tea independently. The CoffeeBoy was developed based on their wishes. In the meantime, all coffee machines in the provinces of Gelderland and Drenthe have been equipped with the invention. The CoffeeBoy looks like a large frame with tactile indicators and recesses for operating the touch screens of the coffee machines. It is said that people are very satisfied with it.
