Description:
The bat is an orientation aid for the blind and visually impaired that combines infrared and ultrasound in a handy and intuitive device. It can be used as a supplement to a long cane or as an aid to individual mobility. The bat uses acoustic and/or vibration signals to immediately indicate to the user the distance to objects within a radius of around three meters. It detects what is in front of it within a range of 30 degrees so that, for example, the upper body can be protected in a targeted manner when moving forwards without being distracted by irrelevant signals. This significantly extends the range of action of the long pole. The bat also has a close-range mode, which only takes effect from one and a half meters and is suitable for indoor areas or crowds of people, for example, in order to always maintain the right distance.
The bat also draws attention to moving objects, such as people approaching or moving away. It also allows people or moving objects to be followed at a constant distance. It helps to detect gaps between cars, glass doors, openings, passages or objects on the table without contact. This creates more assurance. The bat is discreet, as objects do not need to be touched first.
