The arm positioning aid Aparent AKTIV is designed for people who suffer from flaccid or spastic hemiparesis due to a neurological disorder or damage to the brain, e.g. after a stroke. The primary purpose of the positioning aid is to relieve the affected upper extremity by physiologically correct positioning of the affected shoulder, arm and hand. In addition, the user should be given the opportunity to support rehabilitation and to perform independent exercises with the paretic arm and hand at home in addition to physiotherapeutic measures. The physiological positioning and therapeutic exercise should ultimately aim to counteract the development of a spastic pattern, to relieve and influence existing spasticity and to prophylactically prevent the formation of contractures.

The underside is made of anti-slip synthetic leather, which allows very sluggish sliding on a smooth surface. The top side, i.e. the arm rest area is made of soft velour. In the area of the hand rest there is a Velcro strap to which a polystyrene hemisphere covered with tricot can be attached to support the paretic hand in a functional position. This armrest plate can be attached to an armrest with two Velcro fasteners or placed on a therapy table.
