The exoskeleton is a human-machine system that combines human intelligence with machine power by actively-assistively supporting the movements of the person carrying the load. It reduces the compression pressure in the lower back area when lifting heavy loads. This reduces the risk of occupational accidents and overuse-related illnesses.
Exoskeletons are used wherever human work cannot be sensibly replaced by full automation or robotic systems. This includes work processes in industrial production, for example in the automotive industry, but also physically heavy work in the construction industry and logistics. The wearable system is particularly lightweight. It is controlled by intelligent control systems that are capable of learning.
