Product type:
Head prosthesis
Indications:
- Premature ossification of the cranial sutures (craniosynostosis)
- Position-related skull deformities (plagiocephaly)
Description:
Surgical treatment may be necessary in the case of neurological symptoms (e.g. headaches, visual disturbances, developmental delays) or pronounced deformity, which may later have a psychologically stressful effect.
Craniosynostosis:
Premature closure of the cranial sutures leads to abnormal skull growth, lack of space for the brain and potential developmental disorders. Depending on the sutures affected, facial asymmetries may also occur.
Plagiocephaly:
Position-related flattening of the back of the head, often as a result of recommended supine positioning in infancy. Other causes can be birth trauma or cramped conditions in the womb.
Initially, physiotherapeutic repositioning therapy is attempted. In the case of pronounced deformities (e.g. forehead or facial asymmetry, ear misalignment), helmet therapy may be necessary.
Timing of helmet therapy:
Between the 6th and 12th month of life is ideal, as the neck muscles are still too weak before then and the skull is too firm later on.
Treatment:
Following a doctor's prescription, the helmet is modeled using a plaster cast. After a short period of familiarization, the helmet is worn all day, is usually well tolerated and is adjusted regularly.
Price (without guarantee):
The price is available on request from the manufacturer / distributor.
