Description:
Facial epitheses (prostheses) are externally worn devices that recreate the appearance of all or part of the face. This epithesis construction of an orbital facial epithesis with an upper lip defect requires a great deal of experience. Due to the large size, taking the impression places great demands on the skills of an epithetist.
The modeling of the artificial facial surface, the design of the lip and the adjustment of the viewing angle are the hallmarks of a good anaplastologist. Wafer-thin transparent edges create a chameleon effect. Sewing in the eyebrow, eyelashes and upper lip beard requires a good eye for aesthetics and the harmony of the overall appearance of the finished work. A state-of-the-art laser welding technique is used to attach this very large epithesis using a bar construction made on implants. These laser devices enable homogeneous metal connections and maximum precision.
The fabrication of the luting construction in epithetics is in itself the responsibility of dental technology. This precision mechanical work poses no problems for master dental technicians.
Four to six appointments in the laboratory are required to fabricate a bonded or implant-supported epithesis. As facial epitheses are custom-made, this is just one example of many.
