Indications:

- Inflammatory or tumorous skin diseases in the area to be treated
- Acute epilepsy
- Thrombophlebitis in the affected area
- No placement of electrodes and no stimulation directly over or near metallic implants
- No stimulation over the carotid sinus nerve or on the head
Description:
Neurons in healthy areas of the brain can take over functions of the destroyed nerve tissue. During therapy, the patient should imagine a precise movement of the paralyzed limb purely mentally. The mentastim device can recognize and measure the cognitive effort. If a certain threshold value is reached through mental concentration (which is set individually for the patient), mentastim triggers electrical stimulation, which is delivered to the affected muscle via electrodes.
The patient perceives the stimulation via the autonomic nervous system. The stimulation is the positive feedback of the movement to the brain. Repetition leads to internalization of the new movement pattern. The movement can be relearned through continuous practice.
